Employee Must Know About Emergency
Evacuations

THERE ARE 13 THINGS THAT
EVERY ADULT SCHOOL Employee MUST KNOW
PRIOR TO THE OUT BREAK OF AN ON CAMPUS
SHOOTING OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF CATASTROPHES:
-
It can
happen anywhere and at anytime (day or
night).
-
It is
sometimes premeditated but also happens
in the immediate heat of passion.
Knowledge and the practice of Always
attempting to resolve matters quickly
will many times help to put out a fire
before it has room to grow.
-
Many
on-campus shootings occur as a cry and
demand for RESPECT!
-
Shootings
can happen by anyone, regardless of
ethnicity or background.Chances of
surviving any type of catastrophe are
always significantly greater with
planning, education and awareness.
-
Each
school (K-College, private or public)
should have a written, customized,
proactive emergency evacuation plan
in place.
-
Every
school’s faculty member as well as all
other school adult employees should be
fully trained in their school's
proactive emergency evacuation plan.
-
Every
year, each
school faculty member should
participate in a minimum of 4 quarterly
emergency evacuation drills.
-
If an
emergency situation should arise on
campus, every teacher should instruct
their students (4 or more times per
year) to look towards them or another
school adult school official for
directions and guidance. It is o.k. to
advise them that a plan is in place,
however do not give them ANY details
about that plan. This information should
remain extremely confidential and on a
needs to know bases during the time of
an emergency only. (If an unfortunate
time arises and that plan needs to
become executed, the plan must be
modified to remain stealth).
-
A
proactive emergency evacuation plan
should include a minimum of 3 designated
911 callers who are generally always on
campus at various times throughout the
day.
-
A
secondary staging location should be
decided and discussed during your
school’s staff, emergency evacuation
training workshop. However, for safety
reasons, this information will be kept
strictly confidential from anyone
outside of school staff. It is on needs
to know bases only.
-
Every
staff member should know every exit that
would mostly be available as well as
unavailable during an on-campus
emergency crisis.
-
Your local
law enforcement officials or an official
law enforcement expert should be the
only individuals that your school uses
to help them to customize a "School
Safety & Evacuation Plan."
