Data
from
the
National
Crime
Victimization
Survey
show
that
in
one
recent
year,
students
ages
12-18
were
victims
of
about
1.9
million
nonfatal
crimes
at
school,
including
about
1.2
million
thefts
and
740,000
violent
crimes
(simple
assault
and
serious
violent
crime)
—150,000
of
which
were
serious
violent
crimes
(rape,
sexual
assault,
robbery,
and
aggravated
assault.
Many
tragedies
have
plagued
our
schools
and
communities
for
too
long.
In
some
cases,
these
tragedies
have
robbed
our
youth
of
their
lives.
On
Apr.
20,
1999,
the
Safety
of
our
students
everywhere
was
seriously
questioned.
That
was
the
day
when
Columbine
High
School
students
Dylan
K.,
17,
and
Eric
Harris,
18,
went
on a
shooting
rampage,
killing
12
of
their
classmates
and
one
teacher,
and
then
the
shooters
killed
themselves.
The
massacre
was
the
bloodiest
school
shooting
in
U.S.
history.
Similar
type
of
brutal
killing
sprees
have
plagued
our
schools
long
before
Columbine,
and
as
we
have
recently
seen,
still
continue
to
threaten
the
lives
of
students
and
educators
in
unpredicted
areas
throughout
the
United
States.
The
recent
shooting
that
occurred
on
the
campus
on
Northern
Illinois
University
on
Valentines
Day,
Thursday,
February
14,
2008
was
the
4th
shooting
to
occur
on a
United
States
Campus
in
the
that
same
week.
The
history
of
violent
crimes
leading
to
death
has
been
on
the
rise
since
1985.
Below,
I
have
listed
a
detailed

some

It's
time
for
this
modern
day
mayhem
to
STOP!
To
assure
that
every
United
States’
school
has
an
adequate,
customized
safety
plan
in
place,
Tony
Newsom,
Police
Officer,
School
Safety
Expert
and
author
of
The
Student
Safety
Tips
Series,
has
decided
to
provide
his
customizable
"School
Safety
&
Emergency
Evacuation
Plan"
as a
blueprint
outline
so
that
they
can
customize
their
own
plan.
With
simple
step
by
step
instructions,
this
Blueprint
will
help
administrators
to
think
outside
of
the
box
as
well
as
to
be
steps
ahead
should
a
potential
catastrophe
occur.
Tony
feels
very
compelled
to
assist
in
providing
adequate
safety
guidance
to
as
many
schools
as
possible.
The
only
way
to
significantly
minimize
the
impact
of
an
on
campus
catastrophe
is
planning
and
preparation.
Don’t
get
caught
off
guard!
The
concept
is
to
have
a
definitive
safety
plan
and
decrease
your
chances
of
confusion,
chaos
and
even
worse,
casualties.
